Counseling for Children

Greetings! My name is Steven and I provide counseling for children ages 5-18. If your child struggles with anxiety, depression, socialization difficulties, or experiences of trauma I can help. Children today experience pressures and demands that can be overwhelming and difficult to navigate. I strive to help children and their parents thrive in even the toughest moments. Together we can restore joy, peace, and connection.

My Approach to Counseling for Children

My approach to counseling begins by developing trust and safety. I believe It is imperative that these conditions be met for counseling to be effective. I also strive to create an environment that allows children to express themselves freely and naturally without judgment or fear of consequence.

Children do not grow and develop alone, however. They are guided and nurtured by family and their social world. That is why I also engage the family in counseling for children, when appropriate. Often, I provide support, encouragement, and education for parents as they guide their child through growth. When I’m working with the child, I’m also working with the family.

Lead The Way

Though I’m the adult in the room, children lead the way. Children are facing challenges that we adults never faced growing up. It takes time to understand what is happening with a child and it is important to build a strong relationship with them; that is why they have to lead the way. They know what’s going on in their minds and hearts. We are there to walk with them, through the challenging moments.

I am a board- certified, Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois. I hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s in clinical counseling from Northwestern University. My goal is to always be ready to help a child as they grow and develop.
